Published in September 2011, the CSA S250 – Mapping Underground Utility Infrastructure will
play a key role in the creation of more accurate and reliable as-built utility drawings and maps in
Canada. CI/ASCE 38-02 – Standard Guidelines for the Collection and Depiction of Existing
Subsurface Utility Data, which was published in 2003, has already been used extensively on
infrastructure projects across Canada and the US. The TAC Transportation Association if
Canada TAC UC/UR guidelines published in march 2016 Together these three standards form a
solid foundation to both map and records utility infrastructures.
We will look at these 3 standards and the application of them on a current rail project in Quebec.
This will highlight the need to set these standards for all projects going forward and present the
raising of the bar for utility infrastructure information during the design stage. This has set AECOM and CN rail as leaders in Quebec for   
the want to  provide the information upfront and how it was a positive effect on the
construction program carried out
