Mixed-use Corridors: Design Meeting Standards resulting in Track Defects

Colloque Le partage des emprises ferroviaires

Thème

Ferroviaire
A peculiar situation can occur when a new track designed in accordance with applicable standards is constructed within reasonable construction tolerances, and yet a track geometry vehicle will identify an as-constructed track defect. More specifically, cross level tolerances can trigger errors, in which the maximum allowable track speed is found to be less than the zone speed. This occurs when there is mixed freight and passenger service, and on curves that are close to the allowable design limits. The goal of this presentation is to identify the circumstances where this can occur and propose practices to mitigate the potential defects.
