Extreme weather events, ever increasing demands, new emerging technologies and uncertainty over future changes to legislation have stressed transportation systems and networks in the UK to a high degree. There is a need for a new approach to planning and managing risks that could lead to severe disruptions and catastrophic failures in our assets and systems. Such shocks and stress can be recognised, analysed and mitigated for under a holistic and inclusive resilience framework. Resilience allows to find suitable and innovative solutions while future-proofing our assets, ensuring high performance levels and safe usage across networks and systems.
