The Velser Tunnel is the oldest highway tunnel in The Netherlands. The tunnel was completely refurbished in 2016. This included an improvement of the ventilation and evacuation concept, in order to meet the modern safety requirements, notably the legal safety criterion according to the Dutch Tunnel Safety Act.
